Birrarung 2 is a vibraphone and marimba duet composed by renowned Australian percussionist and composer Steve Falk. Birrarung is the traditional Woi Wurrung name for the river now commonly known as the Yarra (Australia). This piece reflects an attempt to imagine the river and its living environment long before colonisation- a landscape shaped by water, wind, and birdsong.
Through these sounds, the music offers a quiet meditation on the river as a living presence, carrying memory, movement, and song.
