“Papilio Hilari” for solo vibraphone, composed in 2021, captures the fluttering essence of a butterfly moving from one flower to another. The piece is well-suited to undergraduate students with substantial vibraphone experience, offering detailed notation, phrasing, and technique guidance. The composer clearly indicates all pedalling through barred notation and utilises various mallet dampening techniques. The programmatic nature of “Papilio Hilari” is evident from the very first measure. This charming, light-hearted solo is an excellent addition to a degree recital, studio program, or similar performance, bringing both technical challenge and delightful character.
